Is Healthwatch part of the NHS?

No – Healthwatch is an independent social enterprise which will be a consumer champion. It will strengthen the collective voice of local people across both health and social care influencing local commissioning decision making. Healthwatch is independent of both the Local Authority and the NHS.

Is local Healthwatch accountable to Healthwatch England?

Local Healthwatch is accountable to the Local Authority, but operates independently of the Local Authority. Healthwatch England provides national leadership, guidance and support by way of advice and assistance to local Healthwatch.

What will happen to Local Involvement Networks (LINks)

Local Involvement Networks (LINks) will cease to exist from 31st March 2013. The experience and information gathered by these links will be used by Local Healthwatch in delivering its services. Local Healthwatch will encourage all members and volunteers of LINks to join the new Healthwatch.
